If you recently started clear aligners, then you might be more than ready to get your results. While it takes some time, it will be a smooth process toward your straight smile. You might\u2019ve gotten his type of orthodontics because it\u2019s more discreet and comfortable than traditional braces, but does Invisalign<\/a> hurt as well? There is some soreness that\u2019s expected, but it means your treatment is working. That said, here are five tips to get you relief from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1.)  Wear Your Aligners for 22 Hours Daily<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your teeth may hurt when you have your trays in because of the pressure they apply. While you may want to take them out, it’s important you don’t. If you don’t keep them in for 20 to 22 hours every day, then you risk delaying your results. Not only that, but sticking to them will help you adjust quicker. That way, you have a smoother transition with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.)  Adjust Your Diet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a sore smile, it might be harder for you to enjoy eating certain things. Hard, crunchy, sticky, and chewy things need a stronger bite to get through. Digging into them can make your teeth hurt more than they already are, so stick to a softer diet for the time being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yogurt, smoothies, applesauce, and mashed potatoes are some tasty things that are easy to have. This minor adjustment is only temporary, and you can go back to your regular diet in no time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.)  Use Dental Wax<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The edges of your Invisalign trays may feel sharp or irritate your inner cheeks. You can simply cover them with dental wax to act as a barrier. All you have to do is roll a ball of it between your fingers and gently press it into place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.)  Drink Cold Water<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

By drinking a cold glass of water, you can also get relief from your soreness. The cool temperature will soothe the muscles in your mouth and slightly numb them. Alternatively, using a cold pack for 10-minute intervals can also be helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.)  Take Over-the-Counter Medication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If need be, you can use pain relievers as an effective way to get rid of your discomfort as well. If you need help figuring out which ones to take, you can talk to your dentist about what they recommend. Just be sure to follow the instructions on the label for your correct dosage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep these tips in mind as you go through your Invisalign treatment. Find what works for you, and hopefully, you notice your new aligner pain going away as you get through your transition period. Try them out again when swapping to your next set, and you can have a smoother journey to a healthy bite you love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
